Male Sexual Assault

Definition –

One of the forgotten things concerning rape is that there can also be male victims. This does not lessen the traumatic, psychological and physical effects of the crime. In fact, it can be seen to be worse as the victim could be embarrassed and afraid to talk about their feelings concerning the crime. This type of sexual assault can be committed by either a Man or a Woman. This type of sexual assault can be drug-facilitated or committed using force or threatening behaviour.

Dealing with the effects –

Male victims may find it difficult to open up about their experience. However, as with all types of sexual assault, to overcome the incidents it is important to discuss the victim’s feelings with a qualified counsellor. This is available at the Rape Crisis Centre.
