Partner Rape

Definition – 

This type of rape is committed when an individual’s current partner (MARRIED OR NOT), previous partner or cohabiter has sex with the person without their consent.


3 Common Types of Partner Rape


1. Battering Rape – experience of both physical and sexual violence within a relationship 

2. Force- only- Rape – motivated by a perpetrator’s need to demonstrate power and maintain control in the form of forced sexual contact. 

3. Obsessive/Sadistic Rape- involves torture and perverse sexual acts – characteristically violent and leads to injury. 

 

Note - Survivors of partner rape often feel they are to blame and research has shown that within abusive relationships- partner rape is likely to occur multiple times.


Feelings which emerge:

Guilt, Shame, Secrecy, Depression, Anger, Confusion, Loss of confidence, Low Self- Esteem.
